How’s your aim there, shooter? Whether you’re putting golf balls or you’re a gunslinger, there’s a saying that goes a long way when trying to hit a target. It goes like this:
“Aim small, miss small.”
The gist is if you’re trying to make a fourteen foot put in golf and you aim for the hole, you’re likely going to miss the hole all together. If, however, you aim for one of the countless blades of grass at the edge of the cup, you’ll likely miss the blade of grass but still make the cup.
A better aim hits more targets.
As someone who has accomplished virtually zero of his life goals, I can say that missing the specificity of your goal matters much less when you end up with the spirit of the goal generally.
When it comes to what you want from your gym experience, be on the lookout for big general goals. “I want to lose weight” or “I want to feel better in a bathing suit” are great desires. Transforming those goals into tiny focused goals like “I want to have 13.5% body fat percentage by October” or “I want to accumulate 100 training sessions by September” will do you much better.
