You know the bet.. It’s better to believe in God and find out He’s not real than the other way around. This is Pascal’s Wager.
Intelligence works the opposite way.
Prolific physicist, Thomas Campbell, once elegantly offered, “When you believe that you know, but you do not, you cut yourself off from the possibility of ever knowing.” Today there are so many adults that have knowledge based careers who live in fear of being wrong or not having answers. To reconcile this feeling, many of us assume expertise to avoid the risk of “not knowing.”
The tradeoff of this behavior is clear: you’ll never know.
