A 1930’s Rant from Jack Warner and How You Can Be More Creative Today

Creating requires spaciousness. For that reason, the best artists tend to allocate time to wander and, god forbid, be bored. There’s a famous story from the 1930s of Jack Warner (of Warner Brothers fame) walking by the famous writers building on the Warner Brother Studio lot.

The silence coming from the open windows enraged him.

After all the money he’s invested in the studios and his writers, he expected to hear the roaring clamoring of typewriters. Instead, his writers were… gazing out the window?!

It was at this moment, the writers knew Jack Warner didn’t understand the creative process. The typewriters weren’t silent because they were lazy, bad writers. The typewriters were silent because they were incredible writers!

So many adults want to create more or do something new. My question to them is, what space have you created for it?
