Conqueror Not Yet a King

There are few conquerors more notable than Alexander the Great. With much of the world under his conquest, Alexander famously met a sage opponent in King Porus. Before battle, King Porus notoriously offered Alexander his daughter’s hand in marriage and an offer to teach him how to be a king.

Alexander took great offense to the assertion that he wasn’t a King.

After all, he’d conquered much of the world. King Pious acknowledged his conquests, but offered a question. He asked Alexander to look in the wake of his conquests and ask what he’s improved. To King Pious, Alexander is only a King where he stands. The land he’s conquested is left run by others sharing the same havoc that preceded him or worse.

A true King would not just conquer but command his conquests towards a better vision. What a moment in history! I couldn’t help but think about the power of taking such inventory.

Look back at where you’ve been. How’d you leave it? What was your affect?
