Directionality Over Position: the Stock Trader’s Approach to Physical Fitness

There’s a sad story in health and fitness and it’s all about where you are now. There’s the shame of being out of shape, for example. There’s also the inflated ego and complacency of being fit “enough” to stagnate.

That’s not how a stock trader would see it.

Position is worth almost nothing to a stock trader. Google stock (GOOG) is trading at $135.49 per share as I write this. Is that stock ten times more interesting than Ford’s stock (F), which is trading at $12.05 per share?

What’s important is the direction each stock is heading in. If Google stock trends down and Ford stock trends up, then the most obvious way to evaluate them (as a stock trader) is that Google is a loser and Ford is a winner.

Take that into the realm of health and fitness and now we start to understand how important trajectory is instead of your current fitness status. Take your current health out of the equation, are your daily, weekly, monthly lifestyle habits putting you on an upward or downward trajectory?

That’s all that matters.
