You know that Abe Lincoln maxim? The one where he says, “Give me six hours to cut down a tree and I’ll spend the first four sharpening the ax.” Well, when it comes to getting things done, your environment is the “sharpening the ax” part.
Great actions need dedicated spaces.
I recently moved (sadly) out of my home to an apartment nearby and it’s been clear to me the power of your environment. Meals on the wrong table suffer greatly in the same way that making music requires the right scene and some work requires the right desk.
I encourage you to do an audit of your spaces. When it comes to the most meaningful actions you’re taking, does the space match the intention? If you find an incongruence, what can you do to improve it?
