You’ve likely heard the maxim before that says, “We can’t see ourselves.” It’s usually in reference to self-awareness and perception. But, it’s also true in a more superficial (but important) sense with regards to movement.
How do you notice subtleties in your movement?
Chances are you either rely on your own perception of your movement, or how you feel. This is extremely powerful, by the way, but only as accurate as how finely tuned you are in your awareness. The second way you’re likely evaluating your movement subtleties is through the feedback from a coach. This, too, is extremely helpful, but a coach’s cues must be interpreted and acted upon and, surely, there’s plenty of room for error.
Most people filming their lifts are doing so for social media.
Have you ever watched yourself on video? I mean, have you ever slowly slid your thumb across the video reel forwards and backwards to notice the subtleties of your movement? If not, you should! There’s so much you can learn with your own two eyes and you might even have a movement breakthrough.
