Surely, it’s a figure of speech that you’ve heard. If we look to extremes, though, the lesson of triage is the difference between life and death. Paramedics arriving on the scene of a single car crash who find a man with a broken wrist, collapsed lung, and head trauma don’t treat the wrist. 

Chances are life is pulling you in several directions at once. 

If you want a chance in hell, begin with triage.
