Eighty-eight participants and scores of spectators took to historic Muscle Beach to take part in Lift Run Hang 2021. The event served as an inclusive three part social event to bring people together for a remarkable experience without taking ourselves too seriously. Every aspect of the event was bathing in the soul, afro beat, and disco from local DJ legend, Glenice in Venice.
The tone was set with the events.
- Event 1, the lift, was an above parallel weightlifting event, which lowered the weights across the board and increased the fun for lifters of all-levels. Some lifters completed their first ever lifts that day, while others (like Derek Robinson from Nashville, TN) put over 300lbs overhead! Not to mention, we got to lift brand new competition barbells and bumpers from Tru Grit Fitness.
- Event 2, the run, was a two mile time trial that took runners from the venue out to the end of the fishing pier and back. Some ran fast, most jogged, and some walked, but we all got some sun and sweat in.
- Event 3, the hang, was the most important of all. Our friends at the Townhouse Venice hosted us on their patio where spectators and participants exchanged laughs over free beers from our event partner, 10 Barrel Brewing Company. “Awards” in the form of trophies and cash prizes were given for things like the thirteenth best lifter, thirteenth fastest runner, “Furthest Traveled” (who came from Florida, by the way), and Spirit of the Event.
The nail in the coffin was the FREE goods.
Part of what made the event special was we were able to collaborate with our brand friends. The event, for example, was designed around the functional platform of the STR/KE MOVEMENT shoe, because it’s the perfect shoe to do all three events in. So, each participant got a pair!
As you learned above, the event participants got their first beer on us courtesy of 10 Barrel Brewing Company, but the day began with unlimited single origin nitro cold brew on tap from our friends at Caveman Coffee Co., too. We’ve also been increasingly aligned with the science our friends at Time–Line Nutrition have done over the last thirteen years on mitochondria and cellular function. Time–Line helped make the event possible and participants walked away with goodies from the most advanced conversation in cellular aging.
All of this came together with the power of collaboration and I want to specifically thank Niki Gruttadauria (my partner in Agency : Standard), the DEUCE Gym leadership, and STR/KE MVMNT for sharing in the vision.
All that to say, this has decidedly become an annual event, which begs the question:
