Open Letter to Fitness Consumers

To the Consumer:

We understand and share most every need with you. We also need safe, fun, effective training environments. We need the best methods to rise to the top just like you do. Believe it or not, we share nearly all the same gripes, too. We also hate the parts of the fitness industry that make you feel icky. The influencer culture that sells body image and inauthentic vibes is our least favorite part, too. We also don’t like injuries, poor movement, and fads. Trust me. We’re on the same page about what we really want with fitness.

We ask that you hold us accountable. The favor we have to ask you, though, is that you actually support what you want. Believe it or not, nearly every single person who sits down with us to consider joining the gym shares that they don’t like apathetic trainers and gyms where people don’t interact or know your name. Yet, millions of you perpetuate just that.

How? Millions of consumers are discerning on price, but not standards. Millions of consumers follow and prop up abs and bodies, but don’t invest time in the concepts and craft mastery of coaches in the game. Who wouldn’t want a coach that is a professional? Shouldn’t your coach make a livable wage and receive benefits and have a singular focus in her career? Or, do you prefer a coach that moonlights as a bartender and a tutor and a graphic designer?

Vote for the fitness industry that we all desire with your participation and your dollars. Thank you in advance.
