Uninterrupted Fitness

How long will it take you to get fit? I mean really fit, and I’ll let you be as optimistic as you want, even if it means you’re not being realistic at all. Give me a number. Is it 3 months? 6 months? A year? Longer?

Surely, no matter how disillusioned you are, I’m pretty sure that you’re answer wasn’t “a week or two.” Deep down we all understand that this process is a long one. Maybe after a few weeks of being on the ball you feel good  but, to be honest, there aren’t many huge fitness gains going on in that short amount of time. See what I’m getting at here?

It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

We both agree that fitness is a long journey. It takes years, even. So, if we can agree that there isn’t any fitness found in the short term, then why is it that so many of us are prone to giving a good solid effort for two or three weeks only to fall off the wagon? Most students, of course, come back to training though it’s interrupted and sporadic.

Stop! Don’t do this. There’s about a billion examples proving that inconsistency doesn’t work. I’m not sure how to be more direct, but that type of behavior is not worth your time, effort, and money. Remove it as even an option. And as your coach, I can’t understand letting such an opportunity escape you. Show up. Period.

It’s as simple as that.

No athlete is going to get what they want training inconsistently. As your coach, I must say it’s imperative to make a lifestyle of this. Slow down. It’s going to be a long ride, so let’s pace ourselves and seek consistency.
