Last week for whatever reason I was really quite sore after taking class at FFOTB. I found myself talking to a potential student about this very topic. I described it then as the “Good News” and the “Bad News.” I realized that as I spoke to this individual that this concept is universal in our program.
Regardless if you’re new or you’re a seasoned veteran, I’ve got good news and I’ve got bad news for you..
The bad news is that the soreness doesn’t really get any better. It probably is the only thing that improves a little bit. How hard training is, though, won’t ever go away. I’d actually argue that the fitter you get the more difficult it becomes. Furthermore, finding the justification to get in the car to come workout doesn’t get easier either.
I do this for a living and I still get sore. I still whine and complain about the workouts. I still dread the most honest conversation one can have, and that being the conversation with yourself in the midst of training. I don’t like exhaustion, pain, or anything like it.
I continue, nonetheless, because I believe in it.
What’s the good news, you ask?
The good news is that since it never gets easier, it never stops being effective. To be honest, it’s the hardest thing you’ll ever do and you wouldn’t want it any other way. The road to real fitness starts here.
