Maybe I am a bit biased. I choose to eat foods that were available to cave men and women before the advent of agriculture. I think there is value in doing things the way they are supposed to be done. Processed foods, sugar, grains, dairy, etc are modern “inventions” in food. Our bodies aren’t designed to eat such things. Period.
Well, what about sleep? Would my 50,000 year old relatives run on 5 hours of sleep and a red bull? No shot.
The interesting thing about these evolutionary habits are that though they might not seem “normal” today, they were the habits of a species free of cancer, heart disease, auto immune disease, diabetes, and obesity. Since the advent of artificial light and made up “food” we haven’t done much but “screw it up.”
“Working the night shift” isn’t a part of your DNA. Neither are nights of 6 hours of sleep. Check out this video of Jessa Gamble discussing the deeply imbedded relationship we have with sleep and our natural body clock.
