There’s common chatter in the baseball community around the injustice of poor officiating. Everyone loves to hate the umpires. If there’s a doubt about being out or safe, ball or strike, fair or foul, the call very well might not go your way.
Naturally, there’s tons of language around players having agency over umpires. “Don’t let them take the bat out of your hands” is a figure of speech designed to encourage people to swing at borderline pitches with two strikes because striking out swinging is better (and has more agency) than striking out looking, for example.
That being said there’s one best way to never lose a judgment call in your life again:
Leave no doubt.
