A wonderful man, conservationist, and one of the US military’s most capable warfighters, Rudy Reyes, says “there’s death in isolation.” This, of course, is in reference to the issues of suicide and self-destruction in populations of warfighters coming back from combat.
Depression and suicide isn’t just an issue for those suffering from PTSD. Mental health is an important issue that needs more airtime for all populations. Regardless of the source or the mental state, isolation is the enemy.
I’d argue that this issue has relevance on a sliding scale of degree that is critically important. As someone who seeks isolation to recharge, I’m begging you to connect. I see it everywhere, including my own life. Ironically, those who come to DEUCE for community can end up isolating themselves in a sea of loving people.
If you’re having a hard time, isolation is the enemy. If you’re feeling alone, shoot me a note and I’ll be there!
