They say it takes a village to raise a child. The warmth of the village helps develop a child until an age when he/she is ready to roam free. When it comes to training, we have an “age” in reference to your experience. This “training age” is similar to that of the evolution of a child in that there is important, substantial growth in the first decade.
Many of you are of a training age less than five years. This makes you a strength and conditioning toddler. That’s not a put down, it’s just an objective observation.
In that way, let the village raise you. Be young and be receptive to the village around you. You’ll have encouraging peers, tough opinions, caring coaches, and a hundred different types of nurturing inputs around you. In the same way that a young lion would be making a grave mistake by thinking she was ready for the jungle early on, we need to remember that the nurturing safety of our village incubates our progress until we are ready to roam wild.
