2nd Time in a Decade!

Today I got a massage for the first time in over 8 years.

In the last eight years I’ve done nothing short of tearing my body down. I played over 150 baseball games a year. Pitchers hurling balls in excess of 95 MPH at me. Training as much as 12 times a week for the CrossFit Games. You get the picture: Exertion, exertion, exertion!

More importantly, unless I severely injured myself, I’ve done nothing to take care of the one body I have.

Nothing!

Zilch!

Nada!

I don’t like to stretch. I avoid proper warm up at all costs. I hate ice (because its cold, of course!). Furthermore, my girlfriend is a a world-class chiropractor. Literally, some of the world’s best athletes demand her attention, and I shrug off opportunities for her to treat me.

Jose and Lindsey dipping away.

So there I am. Lying there on the massage table, face down. All the thoughts and issues I’ve filed away in my mind to deal with at a later date come rushing to the forefront of my mind like a steaming locomotive. It’s the first time I’ve been able to stop and think for months and one thought rose to the top:

“Why haven’t I made this time a priority in my life?”

If you can relate, ask yourself how long your going to go on without giving yourself the time of day. Whether you know it or not, you are probably underachieving if you haven’t made time for yourself. We all need to heal, think, reflect, and evaluate.

Award yourself some time today! You deserve it!
