The Innocent Bystanders of the Holiday Season

We are just a day away from Thanksgiving. After Thanksgiving, we will quickly shift focus to year end holidays like Christmas and Chanukah even though both are over a month away. From there, within a blink of an eye we will be toasting to a New Year.

Depending on your religious affiliation, we’re talking about 3 or 4 holiday events. In the grand scheme of things, 3-4 days of being “off the deep end” isn’t anything worth writing home about. I think it’s important that we not be rude around the holiday’s by sending grandmas pumpkin pie back to the kitchen because of your current feelings about insulin and gut health. Go ahead and enjoy your holiday.

What I’d like to caution you to are the countless bystanders on the calendar that end up being collateral damage to the holiday season. If you were an average person, do you know what you’d do? You’d chalk up the time between Thanksgiving day and New Years day as a loss. You’d consider it one unified period of guard-down-excuse-laden-mediocrity.

Keep in mind, you ought to live up your holiday traditions. But, if November 27th is a nutritional nightmare because it’s within the holiday season, consider this your early call out. Celebrate your holidays. Don’t create unnecessary casualties on other days because of their proximity to a holiday.

It’s quite easy to erase your fitness during this holiday season. Do yourself a favor. Just celebrate the holidays and continue to show up and hold yourself to a standard on the days between.

See you in class!
