Your Goal Isn’t Going to Come as Advertised

When I was new to coaching, I heard someone I admire give a sobering insight about the profession. He said, “If you become a coach, you’re going to coach the air squat every day for the rest of your career.”

We call this a dose of reality.

Many people reading this sentence might not have a desire to be in the coaching profession, but I am confident that you’re likely evaluating some future desire from a dangerously filtered perspective. Most people assume coaching is some alternative lifestyle that is full of tons of freedom to train as much as you want and the occasional viral instagram content creation. In reality, it’s much more like repeating yourself on no sleep and navigating as many Google docs as your corporate friends.

The point is simple. If you’re going after something, your success is going to be correlated to how well you know the target. And, I mean what the target really looks like, not how it’s advertised.
