I don’t regret saying it. It’s probably true, too. But, I don’t love that it’s the case. What I once said was “anything you love can turn into work if you do it enough.”
In a past life, I turned a child’s game (baseball) into a job. It’s a bizarre feeling when a ball game has elements that feel like a Zoom meeting or has the same mundainity as doing an expense report.
Flash forward fifteen years or so, I can say that life in the gym surely isn’t what it looks like.
But, I knew that.
I say all this not to make it different. I think the professional aspects of work that lack glamor are important. The mundanity is important.
I say this because every now and then I pull my head out of the weeds and take it all in. It’s usually inspired externally, like it was yesterday when three gym owners from Florida came in to DEUCE to express gratitude for how we have inspired them over the years.
If you’re reading this, I’m sure you have your head in the weeds in the day to day, as well. Maybe this can be your signal to look up and take inventory on all you have to be grateful for!
